Staff Software Engineer - Virtualization

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates living within 50 miles of a GM hub are expected to report onsite three times per week or as directed by the manager. Travel required: less than 25%. Relocation benefits are available under company policy.

Salary: $171,150–$288,500 per year, plus incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead software engineering productivity and effectiveness initiatives across multiple teams.
• Architect enterprise-scale CI/CD systems for embedded, simulation, and cloud workloads.
• Define branching, release, quality-gate, and observability standards across engineering domains.
• Design GitOps-based delivery for multi-cluster Kubernetes environments and progressive delivery with automated rollback.
• Establish Terraform-based infrastructure as code using reusable modules and multi-environment patterns.
• Integrate security and compliance into pipelines and artifact flows while mentoring DevOps and simulation developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of software architecture for real-time systems and experience shipping safety-critical products.
• Deep Kubernetes knowledge, including cluster operations, and strong Terraform/IaC experience with production-grade module design.
• Experience with embedded or simulation workflows, including vECUs, SIL, FMU, or SSP.
• Cloud architecture experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience and 15 years of software development experience.
• Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial, regulated, embedded, real-time, or safety-critical environments.
• Knowledge of functional safety, ISO 26262, cybersecurity engineering, ASPICE, MISRA, or AUTOSAR.
• Experience with SIL, CoSIM, vECU, HIL, benches, or system-level testing.
• Experience establishing platform products, reusable templates, developer self-service, engineering standards, or reliability objectives.
