Staff Security Engineer, Data Science Engineering

Location: Houston, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States

Base salary: $190,000–$230,000 USD per year, plus potential bonus, equity, and commission.

What you will do

• Own the inventory of security-relevant data sources, documenting ownership, collection methods, freshness, coverage limits, lineage, retention, and known gaps.
• Build and operate idempotent batch and streaming pipelines from APIs, event streams, object stores, and internal systems, including backfill and replay capabilities.
• Monitor data freshness, volume, completeness, duplicates, schema drift, cross-source consistency, and pipeline failures, routing quality issues to accountable owners.
• Build behavioral baselines, anomaly detection, and cross-source correlations that become practical detections for Security Operations.
• Support major incident investigations with defensible scoping, timelines, pattern analysis, repeatable queries, and detection improvements.
• Prepare governed datasets for AI-assisted analysis and collaborate with detection engineers, analysts, security engineers, and source-system owners.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, detection engineering, security analytics, or a related technical field, including significant security-data experience.
• Experience building and operating security data pipelines with API and event-source collection, idempotent loads, partitioning, backfill, replay, and schema evolution.
• Experience with a cloud warehouse and streaming system such as BigQuery and Kafka or equivalent technologies.
• Knowledge of security telemetry across identity, endpoints, cloud control planes, networks, vulnerabilities, and SaaS audit logs.
• Ability to apply statistical or machine-learning methods to security analysis and translate results into usable detections.
• Ability to work from Houston, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-tenant cloud or AI infrastructure.
• Experience with graph-based entity resolution, privacy-sensitive data governance, or data foundations for AI-assisted analysis.
