Phlebotomist - Outpatient, Part-Time, Days

Location: 676 N. St. Clair, Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite, part-time daytime position

Salary: $19.81–$26.74 per hour

What you will do

• Perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, and other laboratory specimen collections according to age-related standards and department protocols.
• Process, label, centrifuge, aliquot, freeze, package, and transport specimens while maintaining sample stability and integrity.
• Review physician orders, enter laboratory tests in multiple systems, verify result receipt, and follow up on outstanding orders.
• Provide patient communication and post-phlebotomy care while applying patient-safety practices.
• Monitor refrigerator temperatures and quality-control records, report issues, and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Perform laboratory reception and clerical duties, including patient information retrieval, medical-record system use, filing, email, and equipment sanitization.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization, training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, at least one year of healthcare phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification.
• Excellent customer service, communication, teamwork, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to follow biohazard-waste procedures, safety standards, departmental protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience performing phlebotomy for a broad range of patient types.
• Experience processing and transferring specimens and operating a centrifuge.
• Familiarity with medical electronic medical record systems and medical terminology.
