Consulting Engineer - Nuclear Safety Capability Assessment/Safe Shutdown (Electrical) (Nuclear Safety/Electrical Engineering): Performing safe shutdown analyses and nuclear safety capability assessments for operating nuclear power plants with an accent on electrical systems, fire-induced circuit failures, Appendix R, and NFPA 805 compliance. Focus on evaluating fire impacts, identifying equipment vulnerabilities, supporting plant modifications, and developing regulatory documentation for nuclear safety and licensing requirements.

Location: West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States; periodic travel to client nuclear power plant sites is required.

What you will do

  • Perform Safe Shutdown Analyses and Nuclear Safety Capability Assessments for operating nuclear facilities.
  • Evaluate electrical systems, control circuits, instrumentation, power distribution, and fire-induced circuit failures.
  • Assess equipment vulnerabilities, dependencies, spurious operations, and compensatory measures following postulated fire events.
  • Support Appendix R and NFPA 805 compliance programs, regulatory submittals, NRC findings, and licensing commitments.
  • Support engineering change packages, plant modifications, field walkdowns, and plant assessments.
  • Present technical conclusions to plant personnel, regulators, utility clients, and project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8–12+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years supporting a commercial nuclear power plant directly or through nuclear engineering consulting services.
  • Experience with Safe Shutdown Analysis, Nuclear Safety Capability Assessments, Appendix R, NFPA 805, or related nuclear fire protection programs.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear plant electrical systems and safety-related equipment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically to client nuclear power plant sites.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience with circuit analysis, spurious operation evaluations, engineering change packages, and design modifications.
  • Familiarity with NRC regulations, Regulatory Guides, industry standards, and fire protection engineering programs.
  • Experience with advanced reactor technologies, project management, technical leadership, or supervision.
  • Experience with protective device coordination, load flow, short circuit analyses, ETAP, or EasyPower.
