TL;DR
Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Spatial Omics Technology Development (Spatial Omics): Developing and stabilizing a custom imaging platform and spatial perturb-seq workflows for human brain organoids with an accent on spatial multiomic chemistry, sample preparation, and system validation. Focus on troubleshooting hardware and software, optimizing imaging-based assays, analyzing imaging QC data, and advancing the platform from proof of concept to large-scale screens.
Location: Onsite in Palo Alto, California, 5 days per week. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Base salary: $128,500–$182,500 per year.
Company
is an independent nonprofit research organization combining artificial intelligence and biology to accelerate scientific progress and study the causes of complex diseases.
What you will do
- Design and execute testing and validation plans for a custom in-house spatial imaging platform.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues with external vendors.
- Optimize spatial multiomic chemistry and sample-preparation workflows for human stem-cell-derived brain organoids.
- Execute end-to-end wet-lab spatial perturb-seq workflows.
- Analyze imaging quality-control data with computational scientists and drive iterative assay development.
- Track milestones and help advance projects from proof of concept through development and large-scale screens.
Requirements
- PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, bioengineering, or a related field, with 2–5+ years of academic or biotechnology experience.
- Extensive experience in spatial omics technology and/or product development.
- Hands-on experience with custom imaging or fluidic systems and instrument troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with tissue or organoid sample preparation and in situ imaging-based assays such as HCR, MERFISH, seqFISH, RCA, or in situ sequencing.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, early-stage technology development environment with substantial hands-on troubleshooting.
- Strong collaboration, communication, project management, and documentation skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with tissue microarrays or low-input histology.
- Experience with image processing or spatial data analysis.
- Background in neuroscience, stem cell biology, or immunology.
Culture & Benefits
- Work alongside technology centers and investigator labs integrating experimental and computational biology.
- Work in a research environment with long-term funding and industry-like resources.
- Contribute to high-risk, long-term research without commercial pressures.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and external vendors.
