Senior Journalist (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based in Melbourne, VIC, Australia; full-time Australian working rights required

Carsales operates an online vehicle marketplace that helps people buy and sell vehicles through digital platforms.

What you will do

• Research, write, and produce automotive editorial content, including reviews, comparisons, features, and news.
• Present reviews, explainers, and platform-native video content on camera.
• Commission, edit, and mentor internal writers and freelance contributors.
• Represent the editorial team at media events, vehicle launches, and industry functions.
• Contribute to editorial planning, content calendars, and collaboration with production and audience development teams.

Requirements

• Strong familiarity with automotive content through journalism, enthusiast writing, or industry experience.
• Ability to write to deadline across breaking news, long-form reviews, comparisons, and other formats.
• Confidence and competence in on-camera presentation; this is mandatory.
• Experience commissioning, editing, or mentoring writers or contributors.
• Collaborative approach to working with production, video, and audience teams.
• Full-time Australian working rights and successful completion of a National Police Record check required.
