TL;DR
Product Manager, Safeguards (Generalist) (AI Safety): Building and deploying safeguards systems, safety evaluations, detections, interventions, and product UX for frontier AI models across Claude.ai, APIs, and cloud platforms with an accent on deployment safety, risk mitigation, and cross-functional technical strategy. Focus on designing metrics, identifying system blind spots, making technical tradeoffs, and solving ambiguous safety challenges for increasingly capable models.
Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid attendance in an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time

What you will do
- Own the ideation, design, development, and deployment of safeguards systems and related product UX.
- Build safety-by-design approaches and downstream defenses for frontier models, Claude.ai, the first-party API, and external cloud platforms.
- Develop safety evaluations, detections, interventions, and tools for measuring and mitigating deployment and user risks.
- Define product problems, solution options, requirements, MVP scope, and technical and business tradeoffs.
- Align policy, enforcement, research, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Lead metrics development to evaluate risk, system performance, user impact, and blind spots.
Requirements
- Technical expertise in developing, deploying, and measuring safeguards systems.
- Experience making technical tradeoff decisions across policy, AI/ML research, and software engineering teams.
- Experience building product and engineering strategy across multiple cross-functional teams.
- Experience designing metrics for risk, system performance, and user impact.
- Experience planning, building, launching, and measuring products or systems in a zero-to-one environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.
Nice to have
- 5+ years of product management experience in a rapidly changing environment.
- Experience with data, detection and intervention systems, infrastructure and tools, or safety evaluations.
