Legal Counsel (Compliance & ESG)

Location: Latvia; hybrid work with the option to work remotely or from the Riga office

Salary: €2,600–€3,200 gross per month, depending on experience, education, and skills

What you will do

• Conduct legal research, identify applicable legislation, and define compliance requirements supporting business decisions.
• Ensure compliance with global, regulatory, and industry standards across multiple jurisdictions.
• Advise Operations, HR & ESG, Platform, Product, and Marketing teams on projects and legal risks.
• Lead compliance-related projects and support the development, review, and management of legally relevant internal processes.
• Provide legal guidance during stakeholder, client, supplier, and partnership negotiations across time zones.
• Oversee compliance-related document management systems and processes.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of legal experience, ideally across in-house and law firm environments.
• A university degree in law (Mag. iur.) is required.
• Experience with compliance, legal research, due diligence, or developing and assessing compliance frameworks.
• Understanding of civil law and familiarity with ESG legislation, especially PPWR/EPR, ESPR, and the EmpCo Directive.
• Fluent written and spoken English, with strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with the U.S. market or an international business environment.
• An LL.M. from a U.S. university, academic distinctions, scholarships, or moot court experience.
• Interest in or experience with legal technology tools.
• Curiosity about print-on-demand and e-commerce industries.
