Legal Counsel (Compliance & ESG)

Location: Latvia; hybrid work with the option to work remotely or from the Riga office

Salary: €2,600–€3,200 gross per month, depending on experience, education, and skills

What you will do

• Conduct legal research, identify applicable legislation, define compliance requirements, and support business decisions.
• Ensure compliance activities align with global, regulatory, and industry standards.
• Advise on international legal matters and help assess and manage risks across multiple jurisdictions.
• Lead compliance projects and support internal teams with legally relevant processes.
• Collaborate with Operations, HR & ESG, Platform, Product, Marketing, clients, and suppliers on project implementation and partnership negotiations.
• Oversee compliance-related document management systems and processes.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of legal experience, ideally combining in-house and law firm work.
• A university degree in law (Mag. iur.) is required; an LL.M. from a U.S. university is advantageous.
• Knowledge of civil law and experience with compliance research, due diligence, or compliance frameworks.
• Experience or familiarity with ESG legislation, especially PPWR/EPR, ESPR, and the EmpCo Directive.
• Fluent written and spoken English is required.
• Strong communication, negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with the U.S. market or an international business environment.
• LL.M. from a U.S. university, moot court participation, scholarships, or other academic distinctions.
• Interest in or experience with legal technology tools.
• Curiosity about print-on-demand and e-commerce industries.
