Lead Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in London, UK. The role may require eligibility for UK Developed Vetting (DV) and occasional on-site work with government clients.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction and define roadmaps for complex AI/ML projects across multiple workstreams.
• Design, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable machine learning systems for production environments.
• Build shared libraries and infrastructure for model deployment, lifecycle management, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Integrate models with infrastructure by creating APIs and services for scalable AI functionality.
• Define testing frameworks and model versioning systems to ensure reliable model performance.
• Manage and coach engineers while setting team-wide development goals and engineering standards.

Requirements

• Expertise in technical roadmapping, project prioritisation, and delivery of high-stakes outcomes.
• Mastery of cloud-native ecosystems and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Experience designing large-scale AI-powered platforms and defending architectural decisions in high-risk environments.
• Expert-level experience operationalising models with TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Ability to define architecture patterns and engineering standards for production-grade agentic systems.
• Willingness to work on site with government clients from time to time and potential eligibility for UK Developed Vetting (DV).

Hiring process

• Talent Team screen: 30 minutes.
• Hiring Manager introduction: 30 minutes, followed by a 90-minute pair programming interview.
• System design interview: 90 minutes, followed by a 60-minute commercial and leadership interview.
