Senior Business Development Manager, Advanced Manufacturing (Aerospace) (additive manufacturing and aerospace): Leading end-to-end RFQ/RFP responses, technical feasibility assessments, cost estimation, pricing, and proposal delivery for complex additively manufactured parts with an accent on manufacturing analysis, risk evaluation, and scalable bidding systems. Focus on translating customer designs into manufacturable solutions, building cost and qualification models, and aligning engineering, operations, and commercial teams.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States

Salary: $122,000–$182,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Lead the end-to-end RFQ/RFP process from customer inquiry through feasibility assessment, cost estimation, risk evaluation, scheduling, and proposal delivery.
  • Build repeatable bidding workflows, templates, qualification criteria, and bid/no-bid decision frameworks.
  • Develop cost and pricing models for complex additively manufactured metal parts, including materials, labor, equipment utilization, post-processing, and risk.
  • Evaluate customer designs for manufacturability, geometric limitations, material requirements, and post-processing needs.
  • Collaborate with engineering on alternative manufacturing approaches and qualification plans.
  • Support customer meetings, technical presentations, sales activities, and contract negotiations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in technical bidding, sales engineering, or application engineering within contract manufacturing, additive manufacturing, metal fabrication, or job shop environments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of welding, machining, heat treatment, post-processing, and design for manufacturing.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documents and translate customer requirements into internal technical requirements for accurate quoting.
  • Experience building structured processes and communicating with executives, engineers, procurement teams, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to coordinate engineering, operations, and commercial teams without formal authority.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, entrepreneurial, and resource-constrained environments.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Wire Arc Direct Energy Deposition or large-scale metal additive manufacturing.
  • Manufacturing engineering, welding, metallurgy, or hands-on fabrication experience.
  • Defense or aerospace contract manufacturing experience, including CUI, DFARS, ITAR, AS9100, or work with prime and government customers.
  • Early-stage or startup manufacturing experience building bidding and estimating processes.
