Senior Underwriter (P&C Reinsurance)

Location: Hybrid role based in Munich, Germany; willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time for client meetings and industry events.

Salary: €101,000–€169,000 gross annual base salary for a full-time role, plus performance-based variable compensation.

What you will do

• Underwrite treaty Property and Casualty reinsurance business for the German market.
• Analyse risks, perform costing, review contracts, and structure reinsurance solutions.
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and brokers at executive and management levels.
• Grow and steer the portfolio by identifying opportunities and applying the right service to the right client.
• Analyse competitor products, industry trends, economic developments, and market dynamics.
• Own assigned accounts and collaborate with actuaries, specialists, and client managers on customised solutions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in insurance or reinsurance underwriting, portfolio management, and/or client management.
• Native-level German and professional proficiency in English.
• Strong technical underwriting skills covering contractual knowledge, risk assessment, appetite, product knowledge, portfolio steering, and market intelligence.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with detailed data while maintaining a strategic perspective.
• Affinity for technology and data analytics, including the use and improvement of digital underwriting tools.
• Proven ability to manage client and broker relationships and deliver tailored reinsurance solutions.
