Scala Developer

Location: Remote-first, but candidates must be based in the United States and be US citizens.

Salary: $115,000–$170,000 per annum

What you will do

• Design and develop distributed systems that handle high volumes of data and traffic.
• Build reliable protocols and services for distributed environments.
• Develop high-throughput, back-pressure-aware streaming pipelines.
• Contribute to the architecture and evolution of data-processing, query, graph, and streaming infrastructure.
• Investigate complex technical problems and implement robust, maintainable solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and product colleagues while documenting and sharing technical knowledge.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States and be a US citizen.
• At least 3 years of commercial experience with Scala or another functional programming language.
• At least 3 years of experience designing and building robust distributed systems and protocols.
• Strong understanding of concurrency and parallelism on the JVM.
• Experience developing scalable, high-performance, fault-tolerant applications and working with complex data infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Akka, Pekko, or the Actor model, plus strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with graph databases or graph algorithms.
• Experience with Kafka or similar streaming technologies.
• Experience with distributed NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or ScyllaDB in large clusters.
• Experience in a small, rapidly growing technology company.
