News Director (Spanish-Language News)

Location: Full-time on-site in San Diego, California; flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Salary: USD 150,000–200,000 yearly, bonus eligible.

What you will do

• Lead Telemundo 20's binational content strategy across broadcast, streaming, digital, social, and emerging platforms.
• Direct Spanish-language breaking news, enterprise reporting, investigative journalism, special projects, and major event coverage.
• Plan and execute weather and sports coverage across NBC 7 and Telemundo 20's linear and streaming channels, websites, mobile apps, and social platforms.
• Supervise, coach, and develop meteorologists and sports talent across the duopoly.
• Collaborate with station leadership and operational teams to expand audience reach and community engagement.
• Represent Telemundo 20 and the duopoly in the San Diego-Tijuana community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least five years of newsroom leadership experience, including News Director, Assistant News Director, Executive Producer, or comparable management experience.
• Experience leading content strategy, managing teams, overseeing breaking news, and executing major live events.
• Fluent Spanish and English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States and willingness to work full-time on-site in San Diego are required.

• Knowledge of the cultural, political, economic, and social dynamics of border communities.
• Experience developing content for multicultural and cross-border audiences.
• Experience with multiplatform news operations, weather, sports, specialty content teams, duopolies, or audience growth initiatives.
