Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA; on-site role with up to 15% travel to customer sites worldwide.

Salary: $129,600–$190,067 annually.

What you will do

  • Lead a team of hardware systems engineers developing next-generation electron-beam metrology instruments.
  • Translate performance requirements into detailed system requirements and optimize critical instrument-level performance.
  • Drive design improvements for released products and develop novel semiconductor metrology systems.
  • Lead systems testing, specification validation, multidisciplinary experiments, and prototype integration.
  • Resolve complex customer system-performance issues and provide technical leadership at customer sites worldwide.
  • Coordinate with service, manufacturing, marketing, external vendors, and customers while preparing technical reports and team training materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience, including 2 or more years of management experience; 10+ years developing complex hardware or capital equipment is preferred.
  • Experience leading engineers through concept-to-release development and a strong record of problem solving.
  • Knowledge of precision instruments and control systems, including high-vacuum systems and electron-beam instruments such as scanning electron microscopes.
  • Strong oral and written communication, organizational, analytical, and systems-engineering skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% for training and worldwide customer support is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with process-control instrument systems for the semiconductor industry.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
