Freelance Consultant / SME (Underground Infrastructure, Electrical and Construction Specialist) - Metals & Mining

Location: Remote role associated with Lima, Peru; São Paulo, Brazil; and Santiago, Chile. The project supports a major underground mining expansion in Brazil and may involve field inspections and stakeholder workshops.

What you will do

• Review and improve procedures for underground infrastructure, utilities, electrical distribution, substations, installations, and equipment commissioning.
• Evaluate isolation, Lockout/Tagout, testing, energization, de-energization, pumping, dewatering, compressed air, water distribution, communications, and material-handling procedures.
• Assess lifting, rigging, hot work, construction, commissioning, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Management of Change, and construction-to-operations handover requirements.
• Identify gaps between engineering requirements, construction activities, operational execution, and safety controls.
• Facilitate technical workshops with engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, safety, contractors, and client stakeholders.
• Provide practical recommendations, hold points, verification requirements, authorization criteria, and clear roles for strengthening operational and safety risk controls.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in mining projects, mine construction, infrastructure development, or mining operations.
• At least 5 years of experience supporting underground mine infrastructure, construction, or development activities.
• Experience with underground mining expansion or development, contractor-supported construction and installation, commissioning, energization, and operational readiness.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering; Mining Engineering professionals with significant underground infrastructure experience may also be considered.
• Professional Engineering registration or equivalent certification where applicable.
• Fluency in English is required. Strong technical writing, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, field inspection, and risk assessment skills are expected.

Nice to have

• Experience with Construction-to-Operations transitions and Operational Readiness programs.
• Additional qualifications in commissioning, electrical safety, project management, or underground mining.
• Portuguese and/or Spanish language skills.
