Senior Backend Engineer (Maps)

Location: Nicosia, Cyprus; office-based four days per week with one remote day

What you will do

• Write high-quality, performant backend code primarily in Go.
• Build new microservices and support the migration away from legacy services.
• Design technical solutions with product managers, designers, and data scientists.
• Maintain responsiveness under heavy load by optimizing latency and reliability.
• Develop mapping capabilities including road matching, ETA prediction, and high-throughput coordinate processing.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable backend services; 5+ years for senior-level candidates.
• Experience with Go or strong backend engineering fundamentals in another language such as Python, C++, Java, or Ruby.
• In-depth knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• At least one year of hands-on experience with mapping-related work, including noisy geospatial data, map matching, road network graphs, or routing algorithms.
• Upper-intermediate English proficiency (B2) or higher is required.

Nice to have

• Practical intuition for driver-side navigation behavior and GPS edge cases.
• Experience with routing engines such as OSRM.
• Proficiency in C++.
• Familiarity with open geospatial datasets such as OpenStreetMap.
