Chief Accountant (E-commerce)

Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan; hybrid work model combining office and remote options.

A marketplace business operating sustainable commerce ecosystems across multiple markets, including cars, real estate, jobs, and secondhand goods.

What you will do

• Lead the accounting department, organize transaction recording, and conduct team goal-setting and performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with Kazakhstan accounting legislation, the Tax Code, National Accounting Standards, IFRS, and applicable tax and currency regulations.
• Review and approve statutory reporting, including CIT, VAT, withholding tax, CFC, statistical, and advance payment reports.
• Manage accounting policies, primary document flow, electronic invoicing, banking relationships, payment approvals, and supplier and client approval processes.
• Identify tax, customs, commercial, payroll, and non-resident transaction risks, coordinate mitigation measures, and liaise with authorities, consultants, and auditors.
• Close monthly and annual reporting periods, prepare management reports, support budgeting and planning, organize annual inventories, and prepare calculations for dividend distribution.

Requirements

• 7+ years of accounting experience, including 2+ years in a leadership position.
• Strong knowledge of Kazakhstan accounting legislation, the Tax Code, National Accounting Standards, and IFRS.
• Experience with tax risk assessment, statutory reporting, tax authorities, external consultants, and auditors.
• Proficiency with electronic invoicing, banking relationships, client-bank software, and primary document flow.
• Proficient user of 1C and Excel; experience with reporting systems such as OneStream or Anaplan.
• Fluent English proficiency, strong communication skills, and business acumen.
