Junior Sports Writer (Sports Memorabilia)

Location: New York, United States

Salary: $55,000–$60,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Research and write catalogue notes, property descriptions, provenance and authentication information, condition reports, and other client-facing content for sports auction lots.
• Develop stories around players, games, performances, milestones, and historical context to explain the significance of individual properties.
• Conduct detailed research, maintain supporting information, and fact-check and proofread catalogue and editorial content.
• Inspect property and prepare condition reports in collaboration with Specialists and other team members.
• Support sale pages, lot overviews, editorial features, press materials, website content, and social copy.
• Collaborate with Editorial, Marketing, Press, Social, Photography, and other departments to meet publication deadlines.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of professional experience in writing, research, editing, journalism, or a related field.
• Excellent written English and the ability to turn research into clear, engaging, and concise copy.
• Strong attention to detail, fact-checking ability, editorial judgment, and organizational skills.
• Ability to learn and consistently apply established tone, style, cataloguing, research, and fact-checking processes.
• Strong interest in sports, sports history, or sports memorabilia.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in writing, journalism, publishing, editorial, research, sports media, sports memorabilia, or collectibles.
• Auction house, cataloguing, or research experience.
