Staff/Senior Staff Software Engineer - Product Security

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid workplace

Base salary: $292,000–$375,000 per year, plus potential RSUs, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, and sign-on bonus.

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting ecosystem for mobility-as-a-service in urban environments.

What you will do

• Define and own the multi-year security architecture and roadmap for robots and fleet infrastructure.
• Embed security requirements across embedded and firmware systems, in-vehicle networks, cloud services, and supporting infrastructure.
• Partner with hardware, firmware, autonomy, and infrastructure engineering teams on secure system design.
• Lead threat modeling and architecture reviews for vehicle platforms and major feature launches.
• Establish standards for secure boot, key management, network segmentation, and OTA update security.
• Translate technical security risks into business and safety impact for engineering and leadership stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of security engineering experience, including architect, staff, or technical lead responsibilities.
• Deep expertise in embedded and IoT security, including secure boot, TPM/TEE, cryptographic key management, and hardened firmware or operating systems.
• Experience architecting security for complex physical or cyber-physical systems such as automotive, robotics, aerospace, or industrial control systems.
• Experience driving cross-functional technical strategy and influencing engineering leadership without direct authority.
• Strong understanding of network security, cloud security, and secure software development lifecycle practices.

Nice to have

• Experience securing autonomous vehicles, robotics platforms, or other safety-critical connected systems at scale.
• Offensive security experience, including red teaming or penetration testing.
• Contributions to industry standards, published research, or conference talks in embedded, IoT, or automotive security.
