Mechanisms Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Partner with Mechanisms Engineering to ensure manufacturability from initial design through flight hardware and production transition.
• Develop manufacturing methods, tooling, and build flows for spacecraft mechanisms, electromechanical subassemblies, harnesses, and welded or bolted structures.
• Build prototypes and test articles, support development and qualification campaigns, and iterate hardware and processes based on test results.
• Create custom manufacturing tools and processes, including Manufacturing Execution System software workflows.
• Provide Design-for-Excellence guidance for mechanisms, machined components, and higher-level mechanical assemblies.
• Implement advanced manufacturing techniques on flight hardware and scale them to high-rate production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or another relevant engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in a high-volume, rapid-production environment involving manufacturing, integration, or design engineering.
• Experience with mechanisms standards including NASA-STD-5017 and AIAA S-114, plus familiarity with SMC-S-016 and GSFC-STD-7000.
• Experience providing Design-for-Excellence guidance and improving product development or production processes.
• Experience establishing manufacturing or production floors for first-article builds and implementing mechanisms manufacturing technologies.
• Experience with GD&T, mechanical assembly drawings, wire harness manufacturing, and reviewing electrical and mechanical designs.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of precision bearing standards, bearing preload techniques, and measurement methods.
• Experience designing tooling and hardware for mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies.
• Experience developing production processes from the ground up and driving design improvements for manufacturing.
• Experience with aerospace manufacturing standards, CAD software such as NX, MES, and non-conformance documentation.
• Experience working closely with technicians and building tooling.
