Lex Columnist (Finance)

Location: New York, United States; onsite at least three days per week

Salary: $90,000–$135,000 per year

What you will do

• Write concise, analytical opinion columns on big business, public and private markets, and the broader financial ecosystem.
• Develop clear, directional views supported by numbers and well-reported insights.
• Analyse corporate reporting, accounting, M&A activity, and company earnings.
• Conduct difficult, probing, and diplomatic conversations with high-level sources.
• Untangle complex and unfamiliar topics for the FT’s audience.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of corporate reporting and accounting.
• Knowledge of M&A mechanics and earnings analysis.
• Ability to produce deeply reported, numerate, and persuasive commentary.
• Curiosity, intellectual agility, and confidence working with unfamiliar subjects.
• Ability to work onsite in the New York newsroom at least three days per week, subject to role requirements.
