Controls Engineer - MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) (PLC/automation): Supporting MES-to-PLC integrations, real-time production execution, and automation reliability in a high-volume discrete manufacturing environment with an accent on PLC programming, industrial networking, and manufacturing data integrity. Focus on troubleshooting complex integration issues, maintaining production reporting, supporting quality validation, and improving MES-driven manufacturing processes.

What you will do

  • Support MES-to-PLC integrations during system launches, production ramp-ups, ongoing operations, and new production rollouts.
  • Configure and maintain communications between MES and PLC systems, including MES templates, user-defined data types, PLC tags, and control logic.
  • Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and industrial network issues affecting MES functionality and production execution.
  • Maintain accurate real-time production reporting, manufacturing data, part numbers, product structures, and quality validation processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, production supervisors, and operators to resolve issues affecting throughput, efficiency, quality, and system performance.
  • Document modifications and investigations, support audits and root cause analysis, and identify opportunities to improve MES and automation performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and Siemens PLC and HMI platforms.
  • Strong PLC programming, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing automation and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and plant-floor communication protocols.
  • Ability to analyze complex production and system integration issues and communicate effectively with engineering, operations, and production teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting MES in a production environment and integrating ERP, MES, and PLC systems.
  • Knowledge of discrete manufacturing, production reporting, manufacturing data collection, and quality management systems.
  • Experience with system implementations, upgrades, production launches, continuous improvement, and manufacturing process optimization.
