Principal ML Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; onsite in the office 5 days per week

Salary: $175,000–$325,000 USD per year base salary, plus potential discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Architect, build, optimize, and maintain high-performance enterprise software and production services.
• Lead platform modernization, code refactoring, and strategic technology changes across the core codebase.
• Design complex multi-tier architectures, break down technical work, define acceptance criteria, and lead delivery.
• Use AI coding assistants to generate, review, evaluate, and selectively apply production code.
• Improve availability, latency, scalability, efficiency, and reliability through advanced system tuning and automation.
• Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, spread development best practices, and contribute to technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related technical or analytical discipline; an equivalent degree substitution is not accepted.
• 10+ years of relevant software development experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 8+ years with a master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Expert coding, scripting, and debugging skills in Java, Python, or Go.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, with experience developing high-volume, mission-critical production services.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and evaluating, coaching others on, and applying AI-generated code in production.
• Ability to work onsite at the McLean, Virginia headquarters 5 days per week, communicate complex technical architectures, and influence engineering practices across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
• Experience with Salesforce or ServiceNow enterprise platforms.
