Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Fully remote from anywhere within Japan; Tokyo-based role. Core hours are 10:00–14:00.

Salary: ¥7,500,000–¥15,000,000 per year

What you will do

• Design annotation standards, workflows, and quality-management processes for training and evaluation data.
• Develop, customize, and operate internal annotation tools for documents, images, drawings, and other unstructured data.
• Collect, organize, and maintain datasets from customer datasets, public sources, and other relevant sources.
• Design and operate data pipelines for collection, preprocessing, storage, and metadata management.
• Review model outputs, identify accuracy and data-quality issues, and provide feedback to engineers and researchers.
• Support data security and personal-information protection requirements.

Requirements

• Experience designing and operating data collection, data preparation, or annotation workflows.
• Basic experience with data processing and data pipeline development using SQL, Python, or similar technologies.
• Experience developing or customizing annotation tools, including web application development.
• Experience building datasets or evaluation processes for machine-learning projects and data platforms on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Active daily use of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
• Business-level or higher Japanese communication skills and the ability to reside and work in Japan are required.
