2027 Summer Intern, PhD, Vehicle Intent and Prediction

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid onsite internship position

Salary: $85 per hour for the full-time position

Company

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and the Waymo Driver for fully autonomous ride-hail services and other vehicle platforms.

What you will do

• Train and evaluate Loss of Control models to measure the quality impact of changes.
• Use existing learned models to derive signals about data quality.
• Design and implement measures of effectiveness for these signals.
• Develop or enhance data pipelines for annotating synthetic training data.
• Collaborate on software engineering challenges involving autonomous driving, prediction, and machine learning.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program.
• Experience with machine-learning coding in Python, such as JAX or PyTorch.
• Strong knowledge of foundational statistics and mathematics.
• Familiarity with neural networks.
• Ability to work in a hybrid onsite position in Mountain View, California.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with C++, especially for data-processing pipelines.
• Prior experience with robotics or prediction problems.
