Location: Based in Milan, Italy; relocation support is available for researchers moving to Italy.

Salary: Up to €43,000 per year, depending on seniority.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, and training of an active learning framework for cell tracking.
• Develop methods that adapt a pre-trained cell tracking network to new microscopy datasets using limited human annotations.
• Apply probabilistic models to communicate model uncertainty and guide user feedback.
• Integrate the network into the Motile Tracker GUI for cell tracking.
• Guide development and analysis on real biomedical datasets, including cell division detection and lineage reconstruction.
• Publish research, release well-documented open-source software, initiate collaborations, and mentor junior researchers.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Biology, or a related field, completed or nearing completion.
• Experience with machine learning and scientific Python packages.
• Track record of impactful scientific contributions, such as publications, scientific software, or significant research outputs.
• Ability to initiate and sustain scientific collaborations.
• Strong communication and mentoring abilities.
• Ability to work in Milan, Italy.

Nice to have

• Machine learning experience in the life sciences.
• Experience with cell tracking, probabilistic models, or active learning.
