BNSF Tech Trainee 2027

Location: Remote within the contiguous 48 states of the United States; in-person onboarding is required at the corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. Travel is up to 20%.

Annual salary: $105,000, plus bonus eligibility and benefits.

What you will do

• Write production-quality code, develop APIs, automation, and tools, and follow team coding standards.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests, debug issues, and participate in design reviews.
• Build monitoring and alerting systems and collaborate with application teams to improve reliability and performance.
• Design and operate scalable systems across data centers, edge devices, and cloud environments.
• Develop products and distributed solutions that improve rail network operations, including large-scale prediction systems.
• Work with cross-functional BNSF teams in an agile environment to solve technical problems.

Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future BNSF sponsorship, including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN sponsorship.
• Pursuing or holding a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• At least a 2.75 cumulative GPA and less than three years of professional experience, excluding internships and work completed while studying.
• Programming experience in at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicate with stakeholders, and learn new technical concepts quickly.
• Must be able to complete in-person onboarding in Fort Worth, Texas.

Nice to have

• Internship or early-career experience in technology, software engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with React, Angular, Node, or Spring Boot.
