Software Engineer Intern (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid at the downtown Chicago headquarters, with in-office work two days per week. Candidates must be local or able to relocate independently.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain Ruby on Rails applications with guidance from experienced engineers.
• Write clean, efficient, and documented code.
• Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, product managers, and designers on product features.
• Participate in code reviews and apply software development best practices.
• Troubleshoot and fix bugs in live systems.
• Explore engineering areas including customer communications, secure identity data management, automated underwriting, portfolio management, and payment integrations.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; incoming junior or senior standing preferred.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or willingness to learn it.
• Basic understanding of programming concepts and object-oriented design.
• Some experience with Git or another version control system.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn in a team environment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Exposure to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL.
• Experience with test-driven development, Agile methods, or RESTful APIs.
• Interest in financial technology and consumer finance.
