Firmware Engineering Manager (Embedded)

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand (In Office). Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. Travel is less than 5%, approximately once per year depending on project needs.

What you will do

• Lead and manage a high-performing engineering team developing robust embedded solutions for civil construction field systems.
• Set the technical direction for embedded solutions using IMU, GNSS, and laser sensor technologies for heavy equipment automation and precision positioning.
• Direct the firmware lifecycle from hardware bring-up and debugging through production deployment.
• Work with product managers and architects to convert complex requirements into actionable technical plans.
• Provide senior technical mentoring and act as an escalation point for complex system challenges.
• Promote continuous improvement and modern CI/CD development practices.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams, including recruitment and performance coaching.
• Strong technical proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux, the Yocto Project or similar build systems, and hardware bring-up and debugging.
• Bachelor's degree in Software, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Deep familiarity with Git, Jira, and formal Continuous Integration methodologies.
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.
