Firmware Engineering Manager (Embedded)

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand (in office). Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. Travel required less than 5%, approximately once per year depending on project needs.

What you will do

• Lead the technical direction of embedded solutions using IMU, GNSS, and laser sensor technologies for heavy equipment automation and precision positioning.
• Manage a high-performing firmware engineering team, including recruitment, performance coaching, and team development.
• Own the firmware lifecycle from hardware bring-up through production deployment.
• Work with product managers and architects to translate complex requirements into actionable technical plans.
• Provide senior technical mentorship and resolve complex system-level challenges.
• Drive continuous improvement and modern CI/CD practices across development.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams.
• Strong proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux, the Yocto Project, and hardware bring-up and debugging.
• Bachelor's degree in Software, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Git, Jira, and formal continuous integration methodologies.
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.
