Machine Learning Scientist III - Search and Personalization (AI)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; compensation ranges are also provided for Seattle and San Jose.

Salary: $137,500–$192,500 total cash for Austin and Seattle, with potential increases up to $220,000; $149,000–$208,500 for San Jose, with potential increases up to $238,500.

What you will do

• Design and implement end-to-end machine learning model pipelines for ranking, recommendations, search, and personalization.
• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines, data quality checks, model monitoring, and responsible AI controls.
• Translate ambiguous business needs into well-scoped machine learning projects with product, analytics, and engineering partners.
• Communicate findings and influence decisions through data-driven insights.
• Use A/B tests and offline/online evaluation frameworks to measure model impact and guide improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience applying machine learning or statistical modeling to real business problems.
• End-to-end experience taking models from data exploration through evaluation and production deployment.
• Proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks and libraries.
• Ability to define machine learning tasks, design model and data structures, and own solutions within a product or service area.
• Experience applying AI and machine learning concepts to real-world products with attention to safety and reliability.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
• Applied experience with ranking and recommendation modeling.
• Experience with production optimization, monitoring, alerting, retraining, model governance, robustness, and fairness.
• Experience designing scalable, low-latency, high-availability machine learning architectures, feature stores, APIs, and data models.
• Familiarity with natural language search and agentic workflows.
