Principal Software Engineer (Apache Iceberg)

Location: Israel — Kfar-Saba or Haifa, hybrid model

What you will do

• Drive architecture and design decisions for complex areas of the Open Lake House engine.
• Design, develop, maintain, and improve core capabilities of a distributed data platform built around Apache Iceberg tables.
• Investigate and resolve complex production and customer issues.
• Improve platform scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability through design, implementation, and code reviews.
• Mentor engineers and share technical expertise across the team.
• Collaborate with engineering, architecture, Product, QA, DevOps/SRE, and Support.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with complex backend or data infrastructure systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Scala.
• Strong experience with Apache Iceberg or similar table formats.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, transactions, schema evolution, partitioning, compaction, and performance optimization.
• Experience troubleshooting complex production issues and taking ownership of critical systems.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spark, Flink, Trino, Presto, cloud object storage, or modernization of mature data platforms.
