Research Engineer, Cybersecurity RL (Reinforcement Learning)

Location: Zürich, Switzerland. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.

What you will do

• Design and implement reinforcement learning environments, experiments, evaluations, and production training runs.
• Develop agentic integrations that enable AI systems to autonomously investigate and act on analytical findings.
• Build defensive cybersecurity solutions for incident response, security analysis, and vulnerability remediation.
• Partner with researchers, safety teams, engineers, and cybersecurity specialists to understand analytical needs and deliver solutions.
• Contribute to strategic decisions about technical investments, partnerships, and team direction.
• Participate in an on-call rotation when required.

Requirements

• Experience with machine learning and cybersecurity research.
• Strong software engineering skills and the ability to balance research exploration with implementation.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to work from the Zürich office at least 25% of the time under the hybrid policy.

Nice to have

• Professional experience in security engineering, fuzzing, detection and response, or applied defensive cybersecurity.
• Experience participating in or building CTF competitions and cyber ranges.
• Academic or experimental research experience in cybersecurity.
• Familiarity with reinforcement learning techniques, RL environments, and LLM training methodologies.
