Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance (Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing)

Location: Kankakee, Illinois, United States; onsite manufacturing site

Salary: $199,000–$244,000 base salary per year, with potential incentive compensation and equity.

What you will do

• Lead manufacturing engineering, maintenance, calibration and metrology, reliability engineering, production/system ownership, and shutdown planning.
• Develop site engineering, maintenance, reliability, and asset lifecycle strategies aligned with enterprise objectives.
• Direct technical support, emergency response, troubleshooting, corrective and preventive maintenance, and operational readiness programs.
• Oversee capital projects, equipment installation, asset qualification, commissioning, handover, shutdowns, and turnarounds.
• Drive continuous improvement through Lean, Six Sigma, automation, digitization, predictive maintenance, KPIs, and performance dashboards.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, MS&T, EHS, Supply Chain, and global leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biochemical, or related Engineering discipline.
• 12+ years of engineering experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or regulated life sciences environments.
• 8+ years leading engineers or technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of GMP, validation, regulatory expectations, reliability engineering, maintenance strategies, and CMMS systems.
• Experience with biotech manufacturing processes, automation and digital systems, high-level budgeting, and strategic program development.
• Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, change leadership, financial, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles.
