TL;DR
Senior Symfony Engineer (PHP): Building and maintaining mission-critical backend systems with an accent on clean architecture, reliability, automated testing, and technical ownership. Focus on designing scalable Symfony solutions, expanding PHPUnit and Behat coverage, applying TDD and static analysis, and mentoring engineers through production delivery.
Location: Remote from Romania; available locations include Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, Bucharest, Constanța, and Brașov. Fixed shifts: 12:00 PM–9:30 PM IST in summer and 1:00 PM–10:30 PM IST in winter.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using PHP and Symfony.
- Own features end to end, from ticket definition and technical design through testing, review, and production release.
- Write strongly typed, maintainable, secure, and testable code using design patterns and code quality tools.
- Build automated test coverage with PHPUnit, Behat, and similar tools while promoting Test-Driven Development.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, and engineering colleagues in an Agile environment, including code reviews and system monitoring.
- Break down complex initiatives, document architectural decisions, participate in on-call rotations, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional PHP experience, including PHP 7.4 or 8+.
- 3+ years of hands-on Symfony experience; Laravel-only experience does not qualify.
- Strong understanding and practical use of design patterns.
- Experience with unit and integration testing, PHPUnit or Behat, and Test-Driven Development.
- Familiarity with static analysis tools such as PHPStan or Psalm, plus CI/CD, code coverage, and deployment workflows.
- Strong technical communication, ownership, accountability, and ability to explain technical decisions.
- Experience with MongoDB.
- Familiarity with JavaScript, React, Node, or TypeScript.
- Experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience with high-availability or mission-critical systems.
