Health Information Specialist I - St. Louis, MO (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite in St. Louis, MO; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm CST. Ability to commute between locations and work overtime during peak seasons may be required.

What you will do

• Receive and process requests for patient health information according to company, facility, authorization, and HIPAA requirements.
• Protect the confidentiality and security of privileged patient information and prevent unauthorized disclosure.
• Prepare, assemble, review, and manage accurate patient charts using paper records and electronic health record systems.
• Create digital images of paperwork and store documents in electronic medical records.
• Retrieve and transmit records to internal and external requesters, while handling calls, faxes, mail, data entry, and occasional patient walk-ins.
• Meet site productivity expectations, communicate changing volumes or site difficulties, and manage additional administrative duties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic computer proficiency, strong data entry skills, and confidence using phones, fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, organization, and medical-record accuracy.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision, manage multiple tasks, and respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• This position is onsite in St. Louis, MO and is not eligible for employment sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience in a healthcare environment.
• Previous production or metric-based work experience.
• In-person customer service experience.
