Focus on evaluating new equipment designs, coordinating manufacturers and warranty repairs, supporting field and design engineers, and developing equipment rating methodologies.
Location: Charlotte, NC, United States. Hybrid work from remote and onsite locations after onboarding; employees must live within a reasonable commute of a designated facility. Field sites and plant visits are required.

What you will do
- Provide strategic direction and technical expertise for transmission substation equipment, including arresters, insulators, batteries, chargers, instrument transformers, switches, and capacitors.
- Develop and maintain equipment specifications, rating methodologies, design standards, and change management plans.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain on bid packages, purchasing, warranties, approved bidders, manufacturers, and factories.
- Inspect equipment, witness manufacturer testing, conduct design reviews, and evaluate new equipment and pilot installations.
- Guide field engineers, design engineers, standards engineers, and craftsmen in resolving complex equipment issues.
- Prepare technical studies and documentation, coordinate complex projects, and coach engineering professionals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a Master’s degree in Engineering in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.
- Professional Engineer license and at least 8 years of engineering experience.
- Ability to analyze engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and make technical recommendations.
- Knowledge of engineering theories, principles, practices, project management, and technical documentation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 10 or more years of related utility industry experience.
