Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory (Molecular Biology)

Location: Austin, TX, United States; onsite duties in a BSL-2 laboratory and office setting.

What you will do

• Directly supervise professional and skilled laboratory staff and ensure production work meets department goals.
• Oversee laboratory testing, data review, staff training, development, staffing, performance evaluation, and coaching.
• Monitor adherence to SOPs, safety procedures, good manufacturing practices, and CLIA/CAP guidelines.
• Document nonconformances and corrective actions when test systems deviate from established specifications, escalating protocol deviations as needed.
• Lead shift meetings, discuss goals and progress with team members, and act as the point of contact when the manager is unavailable.
• Identify operational issues, execute solutions, and collaborate with Operations, Accessioning, Engineering, Statistics, R&D, Support, the department manager, and Human Resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological sciences plus 4.5+ years of industry-related experience, including at least two years in a clinical laboratory; or a relevant master’s degree plus 2+ years of industry-related experience, including at least two years in a clinical laboratory.
• Current ASCP certification in molecular biology, such as CLS, MLS, MB, or MT.
• Current California State CGMBS or CLS license is required for roles in California.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage projects independently.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, computer, word-processing, and data-management skills.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and work weekends or overtime when required.
