Embedded Systems Engineer (IoT)

Location: Hybrid in Porto, Portugal

What you will do

• Develop and maintain firmware for hardware components.
• Debug system-level issues across kernel, firmware, and application layers, and optimize firmware and software.
• Integrate software components from partner teams into a unified product codebase.
• Develop and maintain Yocto Project-based Linux distributions, including Torizon OS.
• Customize Yocto layers, implement drivers and system configurations, and build firmware unit tests and CI pipelines.
• Participate in design reviews and produce technical documentation focused on system performance and reliability.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Software Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience in embedded software and systems development.
• Proficiency in Python and C/C++ at application level.
• Strong understanding of real-time embedded systems, Embedded Linux, and Yocto-based operating systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, Docker, and REST API development using Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with firmware unit testing and familiarity with Git or SVN.

Nice to have

• Awareness of cloud computing architectures and AWS services, especially IoT Core and S3.
• Experience troubleshooting hardware issues and providing technical support.
• Familiarity with IoT communication protocols such as MQTT, 4G LTE, and NB-IoT.
