R&D Technician (Polymer Materials)

Location: Kulpsville, Pennsylvania, United States. Onsite laboratory and manufacturing environment. U.S. Person status is required for authorized access to ITAR-controlled data.

What you will do

• Set up, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate analytical and laboratory equipment.
• Conduct experiments and characterize polymer materials using SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD, and other surface-sensitive techniques.
• Analyze chemical composition, crystal structures, morphologies, and physical properties, then document and report results.
• Support polymer compounding, extrusion, injection molding, material preparation, manufacturing scale-up, and custom test-rig assembly.
• Perform product failure analysis, identify technical roadblocks, and recommend improvements to experiments, testing protocols, and R&D processes.
• Coordinate samples and data with other laboratories and departments while supporting inventory, shipping, receiving, compliance, and documentation workflows.

Requirements

• AS degree in science or chemistry preferred; a high school degree with 10+ years of equivalent R&D experience is accepted.
• 7+ years of related research and testing experience.
• Experience using and troubleshooting laboratory equipment and analytical measuring instruments, with the ability to follow multistep procedures and enter results electronically.
• Working knowledge of polymer compounding, molding equipment, mold operation, chemical aging, thermal testing, and routine equipment maintenance.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including solving simple algebraic equations for sample preparation.
• Ability to handle chemicals safely, use required personal protective equipment, work with minimal supervision, and use Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
