TL;DR
Lead 3D Tracking Artist (VFX) (3DEqualizer/Maya): Leading the Tracking/Matchmove department and delivering camera solves, object tracks, rotomation, STMaps, and other tracking data for live-action and CG integration with an accent on complex shot solving, departmental quality standards, and distributed-team coordination. Focus on mentoring artists, developing tracking workflows with Technical Directors, and extracting precise camera, object, and performance data from filmed plates.

What you will do
- Lead the Tracking/Matchmove department through artistic and technical direction, mentoring, work reviews, and quality control.
- Perform complex 3D camera, object, facial tracking, and rotomation using live-action plates, lidar scans, witness cameras, and on-set measurements.
- Deliver production-ready camera solves, object tracks, rotomation, STMaps, and tracking data for Layout, Animation, Lighting, and Compositing.
- Coordinate in-house artists and external vendors, review deliveries, provide feedback, and support production milestones.
- Partner with VFX Supervisors, Technical Directors, Production, and Pipeline teams to troubleshoot shots and improve workflows.
- Create departmental documentation, workflow standards, and onboarding materials while promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Matchmove, Tracking, or Layout Artist in feature film, episodic, or high-end VFX production.
- Previous experience leading artists, supervising sequences, or serving as a departmental lead.
- Expert knowledge of matchmoving principles, including camera solving, lens distortion, focal lengths, rolling shutter, parallax, film-back calculations, and camera behavior.
- Expert proficiency with 3DEqualizer and Autodesk Maya, plus strong experience with KeenTools or comparable tracking technologies.
- Experience producing character rotomation, using Nuke for slap comps, and working with cinematic language, layout, camera operation, and on-set data acquisition.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, leadership, organizational, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with PFTrack, Syntheyes, MMSolver, performance capture, photogrammetry, lidar processing, or witness-camera workflows.
- Knowledge of animation, rigging, stylized character performance, ShotGrid, or similar production management software.
- Python, PySide, PyQt, or MEL scripting experience for workflow automation and internal tools.
- Experience supporting hybrid productions combining live action, puppetry, CG animation, and visual effects.
