What you will do
- Set up, configure, test, and operate the studio render farm for feature film production.
- Monitor render queues, worker health, machine availability, storage, job failures, and farm utilization.
- Troubleshoot stalled or inefficient jobs across scenes, assets, software, licensing, hardware, plugins, storage, and pipeline configuration.
- Coordinate render priorities with VFX Production, Supervisors, artists, department leads, Pipeline, and IT.
- Develop monitoring, reporting, documentation, escalation, shift-handoff, and resource-management workflows.
- Support CPU/GPU on-premises rendering, artist workstations, cloud rendering, capacity planning, and the growth of the Render Wrangler team.
Requirements
- Lead or senior Render Wrangler experience in VFX, animation, feature film, or another high-volume CG production environment.
- Professional experience with render farm operations, pipeline support, systems support, or comparable technical production work.
- Experience with render farm management systems such as Deadline, OpenCue, Qube!, or Tractor; experience with Deadline Monitor, Client, and Workers.
- Strong understanding of CG rendering workflows, render logs, production pipelines, storage, network resources, and shared systems.
- Experience with VFX applications such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke, or Unreal Engine and with cloud rendering services such as AWS Deadline Cloud.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, explain technical issues clearly, work independently, and mentor other Render Wranglers.
Nice to have
- Experience building, expanding, migrating, or configuring a VFX or animation render farm.
- CPU- and GPU-based rendering experience, including Arnold or Unreal rendering workflows.
- Scripting or automation experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar tools.
- Experience with Flow Production Tracking, software licensing, license servers, render metrics, capacity planning, utilization reporting, or cost analysis.
- Experience in a startup or rapidly growing studio where infrastructure and workflows are developed alongside active production.
