National Expert on Soil Science and Soil Surveying

What you will do

• Support development and updating of Sri Lanka’s national soil profile information system through field profiling, laboratory data interpretation, database development, and soil map integration.
• Update agro-ecological zone maps and databases using soil, climate, terrain, vegetation, and land-use information.
• Support soil series classification and preparation of the national soil map and database.
• Assess and map areas suitable for field crops, vegetables, root and tuber crops, fruits, plantation crops, and spices.
• Validate field data, support capacity-building activities, and prepare knowledge products.
• Compile and submit final crop suitability maps, soil information, agro-ecological maps, and related databases.

Requirements

• Postgraduate diploma in Soil Surveying or a closely related discipline.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in soil surveying, land suitability assessment, soil mapping, agro-ecological zoning, crop zoning, or natural resources management.
• Working knowledge of English at C1 level.
• Working knowledge of Sinhala and/or Tamil is required.
• Must be a national of Sri Lanka or a resident of Sri Lanka with a valid work permit.
• Ability to provide technical support for planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and validation of soil science and soil surveying activities.
