Able Seaman, Able Seafarer Deck

Location: Kwajalein Army Garrison, Marshall Islands; full-time permanent position aboard USAV Worthy with Permanent Change of Station travel.

What you will do

• Stand navigational watches as helmsman and lookout, as well as security-related watches.
• Perform deck-department maintenance, repairs, sanitation, and upkeep of equipment and work areas.
• Maintain lifeboats, rescue boats, life rafts, firefighting equipment, emergency gear, and damage-control equipment.
• Perform fire and emergency duties assigned on the ship’s station bill.
• Use winches, cranes, A-frames, and other lifting devices to move equipment to and from the deck.
• Maintain ship safety and security, complete relevant records, and remain available for vessel recall during dockside periods.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current U.S. citizenship required, with the ability to pass a federal background check and obtain and maintain a DoD Common Access Card.
• Current and valid U.S. passport, TWIC, and USCG Merchant Mariner Credentials for AB Unlimited with STCW/International Able Seafarer Deck endorsement.
• Required licenses and certifications for an AB Unlimited rating; passport, MMC, and medical certificate must have at least six months of validity or documented renewal in progress.
• Ability to pass a post-offer drug screen and physical/medical clearance.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of safety practices and protective equipment used on ocean-going vessels.
• USCG firefighting endorsement and other USCG endorsements.
• Self-starter attitude, teamwork, and conscientious work style.
