Refining Area Inspector (Fixed Equipment)

Location: Carson/Wilmington, California, United States; Monday–Thursday onsite schedule with 10-hour shifts and core hours from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Travel up to 5% may be required, along with on-call coverage for five full weeks per year and support for turnarounds and outages outside regular hours. Relocation to the United States is available.

Salary: $106,900–$184,300 per year.

What you will do

• Perform hands-on field inspections of pressure vessels, piping circuits, boilers, and other fixed equipment.
• Plan, direct, and document inspections; evaluate as-found and as-left conditions and recommend repairs, replacements, or mitigation measures.
• Conduct jurisdictional inspections of CAL/OSHA-regulated equipment and maintain accurate equipment files and risk assessments.
• Develop scopes and supporting documentation for routine maintenance, major repairs, mechanical integrity projects, and turnarounds.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, RBI, and area teams to improve equipment reliability and manage MOC and INTELEX activities.
• Support problem-solving through life cycle cost analysis, root cause analysis, HAZOPs, equipment history reviews, and risk-based work selection.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED completed before the start date.
• At least 5 years of area inspection experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility.
• Current API 510 and API 570 certifications; ability to obtain NBIC certification and a State of California Certificate of Competency.
• Familiarity with API 580 and API 581 risk-based inspection methodologies and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including a respirator, perform physical field tasks, pass a hair drug test and physical examination, and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Owner/operator inspection experience focused on fixed equipment in a refinery or petrochemical facility.
• NBIC certification, California Certificate of Competency, and 10 or more years of inspection experience.
• Knowledge of API 653, API 571, API 580, API 581, NBIC, and ASNT Level II methods such as UTT, RTFI, MT, and PT.
• Experience with turnaround planning, inspection software such as Meridium, APM, or PCMS, and RAGAGEP-based equipment maintenance.
