Web Applications Developer II - WordPress & Full Stack Web Development (WordPress): Building and maintaining public-facing WordPress websites, custom web applications, APIs, and integrations with an accent on modern WordPress development, full-stack coding, accessibility, and platform support. Focus on developing custom themes, plugins, blocks, and backend integrations, troubleshooting complex application issues, and testing solutions against WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
Location: On-site in College Station, Texas; full-time remote work is not available. Partially remote work may be available subject to eligibility and alternate work location procedures.

What you will do
- Develop and maintain complex WordPress websites, themes, block themes, custom blocks, plugins, and web applications.
- Build front-end and back-end components using PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and related web technologies.
- Develop integrations between WordPress, external APIs, databases, data sources, and other applications.
- Troubleshoot application errors, theme and plugin conflicts, performance issues, accessibility defects, and integration problems.
- Plan development work, contribute to technical specifications, and collaborate with developers, designers, content managers, project leaders, and stakeholders.
- Test solutions for functionality, responsive behavior, cross-browser compatibility, quality, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least four years of web applications development experience with a demonstrated focus on WordPress and public-facing web solutions.
- Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, PHP, JavaScript, modern WordPress development, themes, plugins, blocks, templates, and content management workflows.
- Familiarity with APIs, databases, structured data, web integrations, responsive development, accessibility standards, and version control.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to analyze technical problems and explain solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Non-immigrant foreign nationals are prohibited from performing these responsibilities under export control laws; visa sponsorship is not available.
Nice to have
- Experience with Gutenberg, Full Site Editing, theme.json, custom WordPress themes, block themes, plugins, or blocks.
- Experience with REST APIs, third-party services, relational databases, authentication, or single sign-on integrations.
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, cloud or managed hosting platforms such as WP Engine or Pantheon, and WCAG-conformant applications.
- Experience in research, government, or higher education web environments.
