Control Room Shift Engineer II

What you will do

• Monitor, operate, and maintain facility systems including boilers, steam distribution, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, water systems, electrical distribution, emergency power, gas systems, fire detection, and building automation.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting for facility equipment and electronic or pneumatic controls.
• Respond to abnormal conditions, emergencies, and critical alarms affecting freezers, refrigerators, incubators, environmental rooms, and data center temperatures.
• Serve as the on-site stationary steam engineer and chiller plant operator in the Central Energy Plant.
• Provide recommendations and oversight for new system installations and modifications, and assist with training junior personnel.
• Coordinate with Facilities Operations and Maintenance, Security Operations, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school diploma or related certification preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience as a shift engineer, boiler operator, maintenance mechanic, air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, maintenance engineer, or facility operator in a hospital or similarly rigorous environment.
• First Class Steam Engineer License and First Class Refrigeration Engineer License from the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement are required.
• Knowledge of the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, steam, chilled water, compressed gases, and related building systems.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft software and working knowledge of CMMS and building automation systems such as Metasys.
• Effective written and spoken English communication and the ability to work on-site in a physically demanding and stressful environment are required.

Nice to have

• EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
• Experience in facilities management, technical maintenance, customer service, or campus and multi-building environments.
