Principal Engineer (Civil Engineering)

Location: Sacramento, CA, United States

Salary: $150,000–$220,000 USD annually. Eligible for a $20,000 sign-on bonus, subject to the terms and conditions of the company’s bonus program.

What you will do

• Lead engineers and technical professionals delivering infrastructure projects from planning and design through bidding, construction, and closeout.
• Oversee schedules, budgets, staffing, quality, QA/QC, and communication across clients, consultants, and internal teams.
• Develop trusted client relationships and deliver practical engineering solutions for public- and private-sector clients.
• Mentor, coach, and develop staff while strengthening accountability, collaboration, and succession planning.
• Support business development through networking, proposal strategy, client presentations, and relationship building.
• Partner with leadership on strategic planning, office operations, profitability, and regional growth initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Professional Engineer registration in California, or the ability to obtain California licensure.
• 15+ years of progressive civil engineering experience spanning technical delivery, project leadership, client management, and team development.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex engineering project priorities.
• Strong project management experience covering proposals, scopes, budgets, schedules, QA/QC, and project execution.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, business judgment, and professional client representation skills.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer registration in Nevada.
• Experience growing a book of work or regional engineering practice.
