Data Engineer, Emerging Product - USDS (SQL/Python)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $136,800–$359,720 annually, with potential additional bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Define foundational KPIs, product health metrics, and tracking for early-stage products.
• Analyze user behavior, engagement funnels, retention patterns, and market-entry performance.
• Design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and quasi-experiments for features, localization, and growth strategies.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams on scalable pipelines, telemetry requirements, dashboards, data quality, and observability.
• Communicate data findings to product managers, engineers, growth, operations, marketing, compliance, and global engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, economics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 3+ years of data science or product analytics experience with consumer-facing production applications.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one data-analysis programming language, such as Python or R.
• Understanding of statistics, experimental design, A/B testing, retention, conversion, and engagement metrics.

Nice to have

• Experience in an incubator, startup, or 0-to-1 product environment.
• Strong business acumen and the ability to turn ambiguous data into actionable product recommendations.
• Familiarity with Tableau, Looker, Hive, or Spark.
