Data Scientist, Emerging Product - USDS (Product Analytics)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $144,000–$329,334 annually, with potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

USDS Joint Venture operates TikTok apps under a comprehensive U.S. data privacy and cybersecurity program focused on protecting national security, U.S. user data, and the content ecosystem.

What you will do

• Define core KPIs, product health metrics, and foundational tracking for early-stage products.
• Analyze user behavior, engagement funnels, and retention patterns to guide product roadmaps and U.S. market entry.
• Design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and quasi-experiments for features, localization, and growth strategies.
• Collaborate with data engineering on scalable pipelines, telemetry requirements, dashboards, data quality, and observability.
• Communicate data findings to engineering teams and stakeholders across operations, marketing, and compliance.

Requirements

• BS or MS in data science, statistics, computer science, economics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 3+ years of data science or product analytics experience with consumer-facing production applications.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one data analysis programming language, such as Python or R.
• Understanding of statistics, experimental design, A/B testing, retention, conversion, and engagement metrics.
• Availability for fully in-person work in San Jose, up to 5 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience in an incubator, startup, or 0-to-1 product environment.
• Strong business acumen and ability to turn ambiguous data into actionable product recommendations.
• Familiarity with Tableau or Looker and distributed data processing frameworks such as Hive or Spark.
